How to determine whether the HEPA air filter of a laminar flow sampling vehicle needs to be replaced?

To determine whether the high-efficiency air filter in the laminar flow sampling vehicle needs to be replaced, the following aspects can be considered:
Observe the appearance
Dust accumulation: Directly observe the surface of the filter. If there is a large accumulation of dust or even a distinct layer of dirt, it may indicate that the filtering capacity of the filter has declined and replacement should be considered. Especially on the windward side of the filter, the accumulation of dust will be more obvious.
Damage condition: Check if the filter has any obvious damage, cracks, or holes. Even minor damage may cause unfiltered air to enter the working area, affecting the cleanliness of the sampling environment. At this point, the filter should be replaced in a timely manner.
Monitor wind speed
Measure with an anemometer: Regularly measure the wind speed in the working area of the sampling vehicle with an anemometer. When the wind speed drops by about 20% to 30% compared to the initial operation of the equipment, and other factors such as fan failure and air duct blockage have been ruled out, it is very likely that the high-efficiency air filter has increased resistance due to excessive dust accumulation, resulting in a decrease in wind speed. At this point, the filter usually needs to be replaced.
Experience in sensing wind speed: Personnel who have been using laminar flow sampling vehicles for a long time can also make a preliminary judgment by sensing the wind speed at the outlet of the working area based on their experience. If you feel that the wind speed has weakened and the air output is not as strong as before, you should also check whether the filter needs to be replaced.
Evaluate the pressure difference.
Check the differential pressure gauge: Some laminar flow sampling vehicles are equipped with differential pressure gauges to display the pressure difference before and after the filter. When the pressure difference reaches the replacement value recommended by the filter manufacturer, the filter should be replaced. Generally speaking, the initial pressure difference of high-efficiency air filters is around 20 to 50Pa. When the pressure difference rises to 250 to 400Pa, it is usually necessary to consider replacement. However, the specific pressure difference replacement standards for filters of different brands and models may vary. It is necessary to refer to the product manual.
Test the cleanliness
Use professional equipment for detection: Utilize professional equipment such as dust particle counters to test the air cleanliness in the working area of the sampling vehicle. If, under normal usage conditions, the number of dust particles in the working area significantly exceeds the prescribed standard limit and other possible pollution sources have been ruled out, it is very likely that the filtration effect of the high-efficiency air filter has declined and needs to be replaced.
Based on the sampling results, it can be judged that if during the sampling process, it is found that the collected samples have been contaminated by unknown pollution sources, or the impurity content has significantly increased compared with the sampling results under the same conditions in the past, after excluding other factors such as sampling operations, it should also be considered whether the filter has failed and should be replaced promptly.
Reference usage time
Follow the manufacturer's advice: The service life of the filter is closely related to factors such as the frequency of use and the cleanliness of the environment. Generally, manufacturers will provide a rough usage time recommendation based on the material and performance of the filter, usually ranging from 6 to 12 months. If the laminar flow sampling vehicle is frequently used or the environment it is in has a lot of dust, the actual service life of the filter may be shorter. Replacement should be considered in advance according to the actual situation.
