Introduction to the maintenance of activated carbon filtration equipment and precautions for its use

If the working environment is located in a biological clean room or pharmaceutical clean room, the filter with a metal frame must be selected and its surface must not be easy to rust, and the filter with a wooden frame is not allowed to be used to prevent bacteria from being generated and affecting the product qualification rate.
If the activated carbon filter is required to be used as a high-efficiency filter in high humidity and high-temperature environment, high-temperature and high humidity resistant filter paper, divider and frame materials must be selected to meet the requirements of production.

The main function of activated carbon is to remove macromolecular organic matter, iron oxide, and residual chlorine, mainly because organic matter, residual chlorine, and iron oxide can easily poison the ion exchange resin, while residual chlorine and cationic surfactants will not only poison the resin but also destroy the membrane structure and make the reverse osmosis membrane fail.

The adsorption principle of activated carbon consists of the following three main points:

1. A balanced layer of surface concentration is formed on the surface of its particles, and then organic material impurities are adsorbed into the activated carbon particles, and the adsorption effect is very high at the beginning of use. Attention should be paid to the time of use. If the time is too long, the adsorption capacity of activated carbon will be weakened to varying degrees and the adsorption effect will be reduced. If the water in the aquarium is turbid and the organic content is high, the activated carbon will soon lose its filtering function.

2. The adsorption capacity of activated carbon is directly proportional to the contact time with the water, the longer the contact time, the better the filtered water quality. Note: Filtered water should flow slowly through the filter layer. New activated carbon should be washed and cleaned before the first use, otherwise, ink-black water will flow out. The activated carbon should be paved with a 2-3 cm thick sponge at the bottom and top of the filter to stop algae and other large particles of impurities from penetrating.

3. The size of the activated carbon particles also has an impact on the adsorption capacity. Generally speaking, the smaller the particles of activated carbon, the larger the filtering area. Therefore, the total area of powdered activated carbon is large and the adsorption effect is better, but powdered activated carbon can easily flow into the aquarium with the water and is difficult to control, so it is rarely used. Granular activated carbon is not easy to flow as the particles are shaped, and impurities such as organic matter in the water are not easily blocked in the activated carbon filter layer.

Notes on the use of activated carbon filtration products:

1. The core part of the filter is the filter core, the filter core is composed of the filter frame and stainless steel wire mesh, stainless steel wire mesh is a wearable part and needs special protection, if it is found that the stainless steel wire mesh is deformed or damaged, it should be replaced immediately.

2. When the filter works for some time, certain impurities are precipitated in the filter core, then the pressure drop increases and the flow rate decreases, so it is necessary to remove the impurities in the filter core in time.

3. When cleaning impurities, pay special attention to the stainless steel wire mesh on the filter core can not be deformed or damaged, otherwise, the filter is installed again, the purity of the filtered media can not meet the design requirements, compressors, pumps, instruments, and other equipment will be damaged.
