The operating principle of filter paper
Filter paper is used in a variety of applications because it removes as many contaminated particles as possible from liquids and gases and has a low resistance limit. The structure of the filter paper is a labyrinthine structure of fibers, which does not have the fine straight-through apertures of other devices, but it is this structure that enhances its filtering performance.
The basic operating principle of filter paper
I. Capture or interception
Many people would think that this is the only element that forms the filter, but this is not the case, this is just a priority step in the whole filtration process and the filter paper can do more than that.
II. Adsorption
When the material to be filtered passes through the labyrinth we described earlier, some of the particles are much smaller in diameter than the pore size, but they can adsorb these fine particles onto the filter paper even under the effect of electrostatic attraction.
III. Impact caught in
In this process, because of the flow rate of the equipment, the particles will fall directly into the surface of the fibers of the filter paper, rather than being trapped in the pores of the filter paper, and are kept in position above it by the adsorption and flow forces, thus also being able to intercept some of the smaller particles.
IV. Filter clumping
As contaminant particles accumulate on the surface of the filter paper, itself will also form a filter layer, thus being able to capture smaller contaminant particles in the pores of the larger particles, and as the particles continue to increase, the resistance will gradually rise until afterward it is completely blocked, and this time it is necessary to clean the filtration equipment!
